Configure API Access and Navigate AssemblyAI Dashboard

AssemblyAI gives you speech-to-text and voice AI through a single API key. That key is what ties every request back to your account. The nice part? You don't have to create anything from scratch — AssemblyAI hands you a default key automatically. Let's go grab it.

1. Introduction

First, head to assemblyai dot com and sign in. The very first thing you'll see is this welcome screen — and look at that, your API key is already sitting right there under "Here is your API Key." You'll also notice some helpful extras on this page, like a ready-made prompt for coding agents and a link to test things in the Playground. But the star of the show is that key up top.

2. Proceed From Activation Screen

Now, right next to your key, you'll see a little copy icon. Go ahead and click it to copy your key, then paste it somewhere handy. And here's the good news — even if you lose it, you can always come back and grab it again from your dashboard. AssemblyAI doesn't hide it from you after the first peek, which makes life a lot easier.

3. Skip To Home Page

Once you've got your key copied, click "Skip to home page" near the bottom. This drops the setup wizard and takes you straight into your main AssemblyAI dashboard, where everything's organized.

4. Access API Keys Section

You're now on your home dashboard. Look at the menu running down the left side and click "API Keys." This is your permanent home base for everything key-related — viewing them, copying them, and creating new ones whenever you need.

5. Open New API Key Creation

Here's your API Keys page. You'll see your "Default API Key" already listed — and just like on the welcome screen, there's a copy icon right there to grab it whenever you need. Now, if you ever want a separate key — say, one for a different project or to keep your environments tidy — just click "Create new API key" right below the list, and AssemblyAI spins up a fresh one for you.
