Manage API Keys Configuration In Pinecone Console

Want to connect Pinecone to your own app, an automation, or an AI agent? You'll need an API key — and in about a minute and a half, I'll walk you through creating one and setting its permissions. Quick context: Pinecone is a vector database that powers search and memory for AI apps, and an API key is the secure password your software uses to talk to it. You also choose what the key is allowed to do, so you stay in control. Let's log in and set one up.

Go to app.pinecone.io

1. Introduction

Start by signing in over at app.pinecone.io. Once you're in, you'll land in the console, with your main menu down the left side. That sidebar is where we're headed next.

Introduction

2. Access API Keys Section

In that left menu, click "API keys." This opens the page where all your keys live, and where we'll create a new one.

Access API Keys Section

3. Select API Key Field

You'll see any keys you already have listed here. To make a new one, click the "Plus API key" button in the top-right corner. A "Generate new API key" window will open.

Select API Key Field

4. Choose API Key Name Field

Click the name field and give your key a label that tells you what it's for, like the name of the app you're connecting. This is just for your own reference, so pick something you'll recognize later.

Choose API Key Name Field

5. Set API Key Permissions

Below the name, you'll see a Permissions setting with two choices — All, or Custom. "All" gives the key full access, while "Custom" lets you narrow down exactly what it can do. Pick the one that fits your needs.

6. Confirm API Key Settings

Click "Create key" and Pinecone generates it instantly. Now click the copy icon to grab it, and paste it straight into whatever tool you're connecting. Save it somewhere safe right now, like a password manager — because this is the only time Pinecone will show you the full key.

Confirm API Key Settings

7. Close API Key Configuration

Once you've safely copied and stored your key, click "Close" to exit. Your new key now appears in your list, ready to use.

And that's it. You've created an API key in Pinecone, named it, set its permissions, and copied it somewhere safe. You're now ready to connect Pinecone to your apps and power search and memory for your AI projects. Thanks for watching, and I'll catch you in the next one.
